Mermaid City Flowers is a sustainable urban flower farm and design studio in Norfolk, Virginia, dedicated to the art of locally grown, seasonal blooms. Inspired by her grandmother’s garden in St. Lucia and her childhood urban plot in Brooklyn, Dee created Mermaid City Flowers as a celebration of nature and community. The studio’s arrangements honor each season’s natural beauty, crafted from flowers grown on community-sourced plots throughout Norfolk.
Community is at the heart of her work. Dee founded the Tidewater Flower Collective to support local growers, and founded Black Flower Farmers to create space for Black voices in this industry. one that values sustainability, creativity, and a deep respect for the land and those who work it. In addition to floristry, Dee is the founder of the Tidewater Flower Collective and Black Flower Farmers, supporting local growers and amplifying diverse voices in floriculture. Her work has been featured in Garden and Gun, Country Living Magazine, Virginia Living Magazine, and The Virginia Pilot, as well as on national and international television.
